Six panels of space that must be filled….the dreaded tri-fold brochure.
We meet with a lot of companies that say, “we need a tri-fold brochure.” Then they show me some samples of others that they like. 99.9% of the time they are an 8.5″x11″ sheet of glossy paper folded into thirds. They go on to say how they need to get their services and products organized so they can easily show someone what they do.
My very first question is, “do you read tri-fold brochures?” The answer is ALWAYS, “no.”
Then why does everyone think they need one?
Because everybody has one. That’s it.
Who cares if they really work, or if you even like them…if everyone is doing them, they must work right?
No one likes them, but everyone keeps doing them.
Crazy right? Not really.
It’s safe…and when it fails, the designer, copywriter or printer can be blamed for its lack of impact.
If you are going to create something to organize your services and products, do it in a way that is easy to understand and organized, but do it the way you would find interesting.
